From Save China’s Tigers (re tiger sub-species covered in an article on this site):
Quote:London Oct.17, 2008) Teachers and pupils at King Henry VIII Preparatory School in Coventry England raised well over £3000 for Save China’s Tigers during their recent “TIGER WEEK”.
Over thirty members of staff produced pieces of artwork for the fundraising. Items ranged from watercolours to line drawings, even a tiger made from stripy pipecleaners! The artists remained a mystery while the School ran a fun competition to identify which teacher produced each picture. The work was then auctioned to the pupils!
The pupils themselves took the plight of the tigers to heart and raised extraordinary amounts of money through a “Sponsored Read”. The youngest children, in Nursery and Reception classes, enjoyed a colouring competition and the whole school participated in a “Wear Something Stripy Day”!
The week culminated in an Open Morning on October 4th, when pupils participated in making a giant “Tiger Collage”.
Headmaster, Mr. Nick Lovell, believes it is very important that children learn to help others and work to preserve our planet and all its living creatures for future generations. “Working with the Save China’s Tigers Charity, to help to save a sub-species of tiger from extinction, is a wonderful project which will teach our pupils that a relatively small group of positive, committed people can make a big difference.”
Save China’s Tigers founder Li Quan said: “We are thrilled by the enthusiasm, creativity and dedication demonstrated by the teachers and students and indeed the parents at King Henry VIII. They certainly know how to put the ‘fun’ in ‘fundraising’. In gratitude for this amazing effort and their pledge to provide long term support for SCT, we offered the school the opportunity to name the newly-born boy tiger cub”. The male cub was one of two cubs born in wilderness conditions on the charity’s Laohu Valley Reserve in South Africa to tiger mom ‘Madonna’ on August 18th. The other cub was a girl and is yet to be named. The school has named the cub “King Henry".
